What will the future of tattooing look like?

In the year 2122, the tattoo will be done exclusively by robots using laser beams, you know, like in “Starship Troopers”.

Or it could be more like what we see in “Idiocracy”, where no one gets tattoos for fun anymore. Instead, your tattoo will simply be a barcode that you wear for identification purposes. In this world, those who are not tattooed are the real marginalized members of society.

Or, imagine this, people have started getting the most perfect tattoos on Earth thanks to AI and robots doing the tattoo. Today’s color realism will look like complete garbage compared to the detail possible with advanced technology. Relentless perfection would drive a group of driven Luddite rebels to go underground and practice the ancient methods of needle-making, using acetate stencils and tattooing with coil machines made from the scrap parts of a tattoo robot.

Maybe there won’t even be a tattoo at all because Earth will have become an uninhabitable Hellscape devoid of not just art, but humanity. All civilization will be lost and it’s not until aliens land on what was once Inked’s headquarters and discover our treasure trove of magazines that the reptilian conquerors will learn of the existence of humans covered in magnificent tattoos.

Or maybe the sun explodes and takes most of the solar system with it. A lot can happen in the next 100 years! And while we don’t have a crystal ball to see the future, we have a group of tattoo artists ready to answer our increasingly bizarre questions for Tattoo Artists React.

Our panel of tattoo artists try to guess what the tattoo will look like in 100 years. Their responses give us significant insight into the future of tattooing, as well as the growing popularity of the movie “Starship Troopers” among tattoo artists. Look below if you want to know more.
