How does laser tattoo removal work?
âQuite simply, laser tattoo removal helps your body do what it has already tried to do,â says Carmen. Your immune system has been working to get rid of this ink since the day you got a tattoo! This is why an older tattoo looks more faded than a new one.
âNew, fresh ink looks perfect and crisp, but something that’s a little older is more blurry,â says Carmen. âIt’s your body that breaks down the foreign ink particles; they’re not supposed to be there. Your body works slowly to break down and remove the ink particles embedded in your skin. A laser simply speeds up the process. The laser breaks down the ink particles into smaller pieces so that your body can do what it has always tried to do.
âThe energy actually hits the particle, and it breaks it. And then it just sits there and waits for your body to take it away. This therefore removes these particles, âcontinues Carmen. Each time you go to a tattoo removal session, the energy of the laser breaks down more and more particles. This allows the immune system to remove the ink more effectively until the tattoo is completely gone.

What is the difference between pico and nanolaser technology?
Pico and nanolaser technology are two different types of tattoo removal tools. Pico lasers are a more recent development.
âThe main difference between pico technology and nanotechnology is the duration of the pulse in the skin. In the nano, which is a bit of an older technology, it stays there a bit longer, âexplains Carmen. âA pico goes in and out more quickly. This more effectively breaks the ink particles into smaller pieces while causing minimal impact on the skin.
âIf it’s smaller, your body has an easier time absorbing it and carrying it away,â continues Carmen.
Why is a pico laser gentler on the skin? âA pico laser is not a thermal laser, whereas a nanolaser is a thermal laser, âexplains Carmen. âAny sort of feeling you get from a pico laser is more friction than heat. What type of follow-up is needed after laser treatment?
âTaking care of a nano treatment afterwards is a little more intense than in the case of a pico treatment,â says Carmen. “Pico is much friendlier and kinder to your skin.” This means that side effects such as blisters are much less common than with nanotechnology.
