From new face tattoo to Selena Gomez inking

Justin Bieber has a VERY interesting collection of tattoos but what are they all? And what do they REALLY mean? Here’s what you need to know.

Justin Bieber is a huge fan of tattoos, with almost every inch of his skin covered in ink and he continues to add to his collection in 2021.

Last year, he showed off a large stenciled tattoo of a rose running down the side of his neck, completed by famous iconic tattoo artist Dr Woo.

Since turning 16, the “Yummy” singer has been adding more and more art to his body, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down anytime soon.

Follow Hailey Baldwin’s husband’s tattoo designs – and what they REALLY mean – by checking out our guide to Justin’s tattoo collection here:

The cross of the eyes

In May 2016, Justin did the unthinkable and actually got his beautiful face tattooed. The “Sorry” singer got a small cross just below her eye, and her tattoo artist explained what it means:

“Yeah, I got a tattoo. A little cross in the corner of Justin’s eye,” tattoo artist JonBoy revealed to E! news. “It was a depiction of her faith in Jesus and her journey to find purpose in God.”

October 2015 rolled around and just as Justin seemingly confirmed the title of his NEW album…he only went to get it inked on his midsection just above his navel! We think “Purpose” is pretty self-explanatory… Biebs feels MOTIVATED.

Roman numerals

In early 2013, Justin had his mother Pattie Mallette’s birth year, 1975, inked on the left of his collarbone in honor of the lady who raised him. Naww, your mama’s son, Biebs!

The crown

In August 2012, Justin had a small crown symbol inked on his chest, which fans believe was done as a tribute to one of his musical idols – the late and great Michael Jackson.

The cross

Justin didn’t hide his faith and religion, so it’s no surprise that a number of his inkings have faith-related messages. And nothing more than the Christian cross in the middle of his torso, made in early 2014.

Justin AND his father both have this design, Justin on the side of his abdomen, Hebrew lettering for “Jesus”.

The Seagull

Justin’s first tattoo – done in March 2010 to mark his sixteenth birthday – was a seagull inspired by writer Richard Bach and his novel Jonathan Livingston Seagull. This is another tattoo that Biebs’ dad has too!

‘To forgive’

In January 2014, Justin chose to have the phrase “Pardon” tattooed on the right of his waist. And given the tough times the tabloids were giving the Canadian heartthrob during this time, perhaps it stands to reason that this was a message to the world.

“The Bear and the Eagle”

In 2017, Justin Bieber debuted a brand new tattoo duo in a single Instagram story. The Canadian star showed the face of a bear under his right shoulder and a HUGE eagle under his abs emblazoned with the “Son of God”.

“The Proud Lion”

Just about a week after revealing the eagle and bear, JB revealed an Ed Sheeran-style lion sporting the upper left of his chest below his shoulder.

Fortunately, the star was also able to incorporate his longtime king’s crown into the design!

Angels conquer evil

Justin has two angels on either side of his torso with a church-style design tying it all together. Legendary tattoo artist Bang Bang who did the ink revealed the meaning behind the two celestial figures: “We added two angels, one on each side. Below each they tower over evil. Every time I do a piece epic, there has to be the positive and the negative. There has to be a balance… visually there has to be a contrast. Below each of the angels there is a demon that needs to be defeated. The skeleton of one side and the snake on the other.

“It’s symbolic of Gothic art and the struggle between light and dark, good and evil, Yin and Yang. I wanted to make sure we had a contrast in the subject and the imagery. The thing that meant the most to me was a tattoo describing his spirituality. The animals that he has, his spirit animals as well as the angels, his guardians. I was trying to make it super meaningful and not scattered.

The American Eagle

Justin has a large eagle in the center of his stomach, which could be a tribute to his life in America (despite being Canadian) as the animal is symbolic for the country. Bang Bang revealed that Justin calls him a “mustache”, explaining, “He said he had a mustache on his stomach, referring to the eagle, and just needed more around it so it wasn’t so isolated and floating in the middle of his stomach. I don’t know why he thought it looked like a mustache. Maybe a friend of his told him that.”

‘God’s Son’

Justin does not hide his attachment to his Christian faith and this big inking in the center of his belly reaffirms his belief.

Around April 2014, Justin had the word “patience” inked on his back – what some fans thought was a dig into his on-and-off romance with Selena Gomez. The jury has yet to determine the true meaning of this drawing.

psalm verse

2013 saw Justin take his Christianity-themed tattoos to another level with a large verse design on his back taken from Psalm 119:105, which reads: “Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my way”.

treble clef

In early 2014, Justin added another music-themed tattoo to his collection with a simple treble clef symbol inked on the back of his neck.

Bieber added a huge rose inked to the front of her neck, extending from below her jawline to her collarbone.

Cullitons of Stratford

Justin had the symbol of the Stratford Cullitons junior ice hockey team tattooed on his back, all in honor of his grandfather – who took him to watch the team play.

Stop it Biebs, you’re breaking our hearts!

The Eagle

One of Justin’s biggest tattoos is the giant eagle he has tattooed on his left shoulder.

The Tiger

Also on Justin’s left arm, the singer got a tiger head tattoo in the spring of 2013 – perhaps to represent his wild side, because we all know he has one!

The eye

This design is another tribute to his mother Pattie Mallette – and is said to depict her watching over him.

The word “believe” joined Justin’s ever-growing collection in 2012 to mark the release of his album of the same name – and for his fans, the “Beliebers.”

The castle & the prince

Maybe this drawing represents Justin’s chivalry when it comes to the ladies in his life?

In April 2013, Justin added a traditional tattoo when he got a koi tattoo on his arm – a symbol of good luck in many cultures!

The owl

This tattoo was done in October 2012 and is a symbol of wisdom – as well as a recurring motif in photos of Justin and his ‘Believe’ tour.

The portrait of Selena Gomez

The face visible at the bottom of his arm is a portrait of Selena Gomez whose face Justin has already tried to change, but everyone knows it is his ex!

Another Spring 2014 addition, the simple word “Trust” sits in the crook of Justin’s right arm.

The boombox

Following the theme of music, in the spring of 2014 Justin added a boombox to his tattoos – not that Justin was around when they were a thing!

The “music” symbol

In 2012, Justin added the Japanese character Kanji for music to his massive collection of tattoos.

The fool

Fans think Justin’s jester image was meant to be a stab at the press.

The Korean Mask

Justin’s smiling Korean mask symbol was inked on the singer’s sleeve in March last year and serves as a reference to Justin’s strong faith.

fish scales

Following the more traditional tattoo imagery – Justin added fish scales to his sleeve, likely a reference to his star sign being a Pisces.

The letter “G”

2015 was slow on the new tattoo front for Justin, but he added the letter “G” to his sleeve in honor of his friends Chad and Julia Veach, and their daughter Georgia who suffers from Lissencephaly.

“She is amazing and has the sweetest soul. You make me better and I’m blessed to have you in my life,” Justin posted to reveal the tattoo.

The start of 2014 saw Justin add MANY new tattoos to his body – including a compass which is likely to symbolize orientation and keep an eye on your destination!

The ghost

In March 2014, Justin immortalized PROBABLY one of his favorite video games with a cheeky design of the iconic Super Mario Brothers ghost.

The “Banksy”

Another spring 2014 addition – on the back of his arm, Justin paid homage to the art of graffiti artist Banksy with a depiction of his famous artwork ‘Balloon Girl’.

The ball of eight

In the spring of 2014, Justin – who has always followed traditional tattoo styles – had a small eight ball added to the sleeve of his arm for good luck.

The “chi” symbol

In February 2013, Justin added a large “Chi” symbol – which may be another reference to the “Where Are U Now” star’s faith.

Angel, rose and clock

Justin filled his upper right arm in early 2018 with this elaborate design, of an angel holding a clock with a large rose design below.

jesus christ

On Justin’s left leg, in early 2012, the singer had a depiction of Jesus Christ himself.

hands that pray

In March 2012, Justin added another religious-themed tattoo, this time on his right leg, when he had a large pair of praying hands inked on the back of his calf.

So this is it ! Your guide to Justin Bieber’s ever-growing collection of tattoos. Watch this space for an update when it (inevitably) gets a new design.
