In 2008, the movie world changed forever when “Iron Man” made its big screen debut. It was the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would go on to become one of the greatest film franchises of all time. “Iron Man” was directed by Jon Favreau, who also plays Harold “Happy” Hogan, Tony Stark/Iron Man’s bodyguard throughout the series. Favreau cast Robert Downey Jr. for the role after seeing his performance in 2005’s “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and the role revitalized Downey Jr.’s career after a period of drug addiction and legal troubles.
Tony Stark has become one of the most famous characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks in large part to the performance of Downey Jr. Stark Industries, but later uses his technology to create mechanized suits and becomes Iron Man. He appeared in eleven MCU films, including two solo films “Iron Man 2” (2010) and “Iron Man 3” (2013), as well as four “Avengers” films. His last film appearance was in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” but alternate versions of Stark appear in the 2021 animated anthology series “What If…?” on Disney+.
