We all know Buzz Lightyear’s origin story as a toy in 1995’s “Toy Story,” but now we’re learning more about the space guard behind the toy. “Lightyear” is a spin-off film that follows a young Buzz Lightyear who must find his way home after being left behind on a hostile planet. Lightyear is played by Chris Evans, who you all probably know as Captain America. The film also features performances from Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and Uzo Aduba. Lightyear’s nemesis is Emperor Zurg, who you probably remember from previous films, and he’s played by James Brolin. The film is directed by Angus MacLane, who came up with the idea for the film after completing work on “Finding Dory” in 2016. “Lightyear” is his directorial debut and it’s the first Pixar film to hit theaters worldwide. worldwide since “Onward” in 2020.
Although this is his big screen debut, this is technically the third media appearance for Buzz Lightyear the Space Ranger. He first appeared in the animated television series “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command”, which aired for one season from October 2000 to January 2001. He also starred in the 2000 live-action film, ” Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins.” Of course, he also appeared as a toy in all four “Toy Story” films and was voiced by actor Tim Allen throughout.
