Llamas are the best. Anyone who thinks otherwise should check out adorable llama tattoos. Llamas are camels and belong to the same family as camels and alpacas. They are native to the mountainous region of the Andes and since pre-Columbian times they have been used as pack animals and for their meat. Llamas are often confused with alpacas, however, llamas are taller, reaching up to six feet in height and 450 pounds in weight. Although there are still wild llamas, llamas have been domesticated for centuries and are very social animals. Despite popular belief, domesticated llamas rarely spit on humans, but in packs, llamas often spit on young llamas in the herd to discipline them.
Llamas are frequently portrayed in the media and one of the most notable examples is the 2000 Disney animated film, “The Emperor’s New Groove”. In this film, the Inca Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) is transformed into a llama by the film’s antagonist, the adviser to his kingdom Yzma. Other examples of llamas in popular culture include Tina from “Napoleon Dynamite” and “Ice Age: Collision Course” from 2016.
