5 Matching Anime Tattoo Ideas

0

Whether you’re planning to get your first tattoo, have a few already, or cover your entire body, there are always new ideas swirling around. We think about the tattoos we want or imagine getting. And we live in a time where nerdism is more embraced. People aren’t ashamed to show off their tattoos with quotes from their favorite shows. They’re also not afraid to put character faces on their forearms. The days when this would have seemed too stupid to understand are long gone.

Of course, just one tattoo on your body is a fairly low risk of regret, you make your own choice and (hopefully) know you love the fandom enough to tattoo it on your skin. However, there are those who decide to get a tattoo with someone. And it’s a commitment– we are not always assured of lifelong connections with people. But when you get a matching tattoo with another human, you’re essentially assured that the tattoo you got, celebrating your love, will be there, on your body, even if you break up. And it can be a disappointment of an encore every time you watch it.

But if you really love an anime, anime couple tattoos can be cute, and also, just a way to show your love for a show, even if you and the person (who you have them with) no longer hold them side by side. Here are 5 anime couple ideas you’ll be happy with no matter what the future holds.

1. Shinji and Eva Unit 01

(Netflix)

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime that is hard to forget after watching it. (Even if you feel like it because it’s very heavy, and if you have mental health issues, that’s…a lot.) But what couple tattoos could you get that involve the show? A simple idea is Shinji and Eva Unit 01! Depending on what you are looking for, one person might have Shinji wearing his helmet and the other might have the head of Eva Unit 01. A more expensive set of tattoos would be a full Shinji and Eva Unit 01.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Symbols of Brotherhood

Watching this anime for the first time is an experience many of us wish we could relive. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is an amazing anime and get a tattoo inspired by it? It’s something you won’t regret. If you’re looking for matching ideas (with your favorite viewing partner), maybe opt for alchemy symbols! There’s no shortage of it in this series (it’s called Fullmetal Alchemist after all) and you have your pick of characters. Even the ones in the image above could work or the symbol on the back of Ed’s jacket (voiced by Vic Mignogna). The good thing is that you both have a symbol to match, but also, you both choose your favorite, so the tattoo has individual meaning for you.

3. Gon and Killua

(Madhouse and Viz Media)

It doesn’t matter if you prefer the 1999 version or the 2011 version, Hunter X Hunter is one of the best anime out there. Unfortunately, whether or not new manga will be adapted is up in the air. But as you yearn to date, tattoos honoring the show can be fun. And if you choose to go this route, it wouldn’t be surprising if Gon x Killua was your choice. Whether you ship them or just consider them best friends is up to you. Either way, having Gon’s face on your arm while someone else has Killua would be pretty special. Maybe they would stick out their tongues or smile like idiots. They have plenty of moments that you can ink on your skin.

4. Giorno butterfly brooches

(Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Viz Media)

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5 is one of my personal favorite parts. There’s a long list of reasons why, so I won’t go into too much detail on that right now, but for tattoo ideas, there are countless inspired by Golden Wind. A simple matching tattoo idea is definitely Giorno’s (Phillip Reich) butterfly brooch. Going full color with this one would be ideal. One person could choose their favorite version of the brooch (the anime or manga colors) and the other could choose the colors of their final outfit (pictured above). Simple but golden.

5. Ryuk and apples

(Viz Media)

If you watched Death threat, then you know how much Ryuk (Willem Dafoe) loves apples. Which is one of the cutest things ever (don’t even try to tell me it’s not). And if you and your loved one want to get a match Death threat tattoos, why not go for something quirky like Ryuk and an apple? Maybe you would have Ryuk in profile with his mouth open and the other person might have a bitten apple on his body? He may not check in with other people, but you both would know that. That’s all that matters, right?
