In 1983, director Brian De Palma introduced the audience to the crime drama “Scarface”. The film was a remake of the original 1932 film, which was loosely based on a 1929 novel of the same name by Armitage Trail. This novel was inspired by the story of Al Capone, an American gangster who rose to fame during the Prohibition era and was a top crime boss in Chicago. The 1983 film follows a Cuban refugee named Antonio “Tony” Montana, who arrives in Miami in 1980 with nothing, to become a powerful drug lord. The film stars actor Al Pacino, who rose to prominence playing Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather.” “Scarface” helped further establish Pacino as a star and earned him a Best Actor nomination at that year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Although it became cult, the film was poorly reviewed by critics and was even nominated for a Golden Raspberry for Worst Director that year. However, in the eyes of millions, it is one of the greatest films of all time and is celebrated as such to this day. Even those who haven’t seen the film can cite some of the memorable lines, which continue to be repeated and parodied decades after its release. We’ll never forget gems like “Say hello to my boyfriend!” which may be pretty cheesy now, but solidified “Scarface” in movie history.

In honor of the nearly 40 years since that movie was released, take a look at 20 of our favorite “Scarface” inspired tattoos. So let us know your favorite part of this movie in the comments section on social media.
